Trishna is the work of prolific director Michael Winterbottom. Starring Freida Pinto it is a modern take on Tom Hardy’s novel Tess of the d’Urbervilles. Using India as a backdrop this film is a seductive, study of the clash between rich and poor, east and west, male and female.
The Brewery provided vfx for the key closing scenes of Trishna. To remove the danger on set and enable improvisation, a key element of Michael Winterbottom’s method, the Brewery were asked to swap Freida Pinto’s stunt knife with a CG lethal kitchen knife. Lighting setups were digitally re-created and the knife was hand tracked into each shot. Blood and wounds were then composited in to make a seamless piece of work.
